WILDCAT HEART Article: Gets Great RAVES from FANS |
|
Thanks for your emails. You can read this article if you scan below. |
The Callisburg
Wildcats did not get over the hump they plowed through it. The Wildcats defeated
the 15th ranked undefeated team: Paradise Panthers 17 to 14. The wind
conditions were terrible for the cats who are primarily a passing team. The refs
were so one sided they reminded me of the Pilot Point game.
The biggest
defender for QB Thor Long was the wind. The Cats are fortunate that Thor has
a cannon because it took that cannon to throw passes against the wind. Thor was
a warrior in this game throwing for 320 yards, and two touchdowns. Clayton Love
ran hard trying to keep the Panthers off balanced with 21 yards rushing and 49 yards receiving. The receiving corp of Hough, Bartley, Dorman, and Brinlee did a good job of catching passes in bad conditions. Bobby led the receivers with 146 yards and a touchdown. Kevin had a huge touchdown by breaking through two defenders and running 75 yards for the first Wildcat
touchdown. Bobby also came up big in the special teams department with a 49 yard
field goal to end the first half. I thought Bobby also had big punts into strong
winds that helped the defense with field position. The O-line of Johnson, Brooks,
Wilson, Smith, and Goodwin had a few breakdowns, but had a good game overall. The
D-line of Simmons, Fuqua, Ing, and Larue did a great job of controlling the line of scrimmage, and forcing plays to the sideline. Brandon Larue who came back from an injury two weeks ago played like his old self
and had a big impact on this game. The LB corp of McCage, Apalla, and Bartley
was all over the field. McCage and Appalla were the hitters of the game setting
the tone for the defense. The CB’s of Hough and Dorman did a good job covering
receivers and run support. The safeties Love and Randle also did a good job covering
and run support. Randle used his speed several times to stop potential big runs.
The defense
forced two key turnovers, had a goal line stop and kept the Panthers out of the end zone at the end of the game for the win. I think this was the most important C-burg game past, present, or future. The first playoff win in C-burg football history. The game
that proves Coach Bomar has built a football program. The game that shows all
the young cats what hard work and dedication can bring a team.
The game Friday
night is what Texas football is all about. The Wildcat Nation in the stands their
eyes filled with tears. The coaches going crazy hugging and congratulating each
other. The best part for me was the reaction of the players holding that trophy
toward the sky. The moment, the one moment when life under the Friday night lights
seem so perfect. The first kiss, your first love, your first car I cannot put
into words how that one moment felt like. I just stood there with tears in my
eyes being happy for the players, coaches, and Wildcat Nation. I know what you’re
thinking “It is just a game”. Texas football is not just a game;
this is life for a lot of the players and coaches. The pain, hard work, and the
emotions they go through every day for this game. I know you have some players
that probably go out every weekend and party, but I do not consider them players. I
am talking about the players who have the dedication to do what is right for their bodies.
The players who have the dedication for the team and not just for personal reasons.
The players who care more about the team success than their own. I am
talking about the true character of the Wildcat.
Ok, I kind
of zoned out for a minute now back to the article. The Cats are playing a tough
team Friday at 7:30 in Forney. Dekalb does not have the impressive record that
Paradise had, but they are a powerhouse running team. The Wildcats are going
to have to bend and not break on defense. The offense needs to put points on
the board on every drive. Good Luck to the Coaches and the Cats. Wildcat Nation show up with your noise makers. I have a new
noise maker that will ring your ears. I’m outta here. See you Friday.
-Dusty and the Wildcat Nation
Whats up C-burg?!
The Wildcat Nation is heading to Saginaw Friday night to watch our Wildcats play against Paradise
in the first round of the playoffs. The Wildcats clinched their playoff spot
Friday night 49 to 7 against the S&S Rams. I really do not have much to say
about this game. The Wildcats played a bad team and took care of their business
to get into the playoffs. The spirit in the stands was not that good, but I think
it was because a lot of people were mad. I heard people talking about how elected
individuals used their influence to manipulate a situation for personal reasons. I
know it is a bad example for their families and it hurts their reputation in the community.
I don’t think the Wildcat Nation should worry about this right now. The
C-burg community has always united to take care of any community injustice. We
as a community need to forget about the politics and get ready for the playoffs. The
Wildcats and coaches do not need our support they deserve it after all the hard work, and tough times they had this year. The wildcats are a team that can beat anyone in 2A football. I think they need to just get over the hump. The game against
Paradise could be the hump. The O-line needs
to consistently give Thor time to find his receivers. The receiver I expect to
have a big game is Kevin Bartley. I would put money on him in big games. Kevin can handle the pressure, and has the heart to step up and make the big catches
in tight situations. The defense has become salty led by McCage and Apalla and
has proved they can play with any team. I do know this is the best Wildcat team
I have seen going into the playoffs. I think this could be the year C-burg breaks
through the first round. The Wildcat Nation needs to be in Saginaw with your
noise makers. We need to be loud and crazy.
Good luck to the coaches and players. I just want the coaches and players
to know win or lose we are still proud of what the team did this year.
Dusty and The Wildcat Nation
No Favoritism Rule is in Effect at Callisburg
“Football players
are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get inside,” and you surely don’t know
when they are in elementary school. You may know that you have an athlete. I have to fess up real quick, I know I stole the
line from Forest Gump, but I want you to think about how much sense it makes.
Most kids now start
playing pad football around 2nd or 3rd grade. I have seen
kids that look hopeless and others look like stars. The kids grow up and some
are opposite than what they were in younger years. Usually the ones that had
to scrap and claw to get better end up having the best work ethic and better talent in the long run because all they know
is hard work. It’s sad to say, the ones who were given positions usually fell to the waste side because they didn’t
know how to earn a spot. I know my son was a short, chubby center in little league and now he is a 6 ft+ receiver in high
school. I think the dads who coach little league need to realize how much influence
they have on the kids on their team and that their decisions can effect a child both positive, which is what we all want,
and negatively.
The kids I had the
pleasure of coaching, now play high school football and we still talk about football.
I treated them like my kids when they were young and I still treat them like my kids now. I have seen coaches put their kids in a position that they wanted them to play to be the star and not the
position they needed to play. I am here to tell you that is a bad situation and
affects the whole program. I think a coach can do more harm to his own child
than he realizes. I want to break this down for you real quick:
For instance,
a coach has his kid in a skilled position such as Quarterback/Running Back, etc. The
child does not have enough skill to learn or play the position. He may not have
the physical or coordination that the position needs. The child is frustrated and starts hating football or he sticks with
it until junior high and ends up not playing because he doesn’t know the position he should be playing. The child that should have been playing QB or RB already quit because he was frustrated or has a tough
time learning the position in junior high because he never had the chance in little league.
The really bad situation is the parents of the children on the team are all mad because they know what is going on.
Coaches need to understand
that little league football should be fun for the kids and not just screaming all the time, though there are times when a
coach needs to get loud, he doesn’t direct at one player, but the whole team.
I think you have to figure out how to have discipline and also fun. I
use to be the “Bear Crawl King”. Lazy, not playing attention, fumbles,
Oh yeah! Bear crawls.
I also gave the players
nicknames and we joked around a lot. Little league football is not all about
winning. It is mainly about discipline and learning proper technique. I think little league programs would improve if the people in charge would have a meeting at the end of
the season with just the parents of each team and evaluate the coaches for the next season or ask each parent to fill out
an evaluation form and sign it.
My advice to the parents,
support your kids and remember most of the dads coach because they care about the kids.
I love little league football. I think it really helps kids come out of their shell.
I had a lot of fun
when my son played in CAYSA and now he is in high school learning football from a great coaching staff. I played for C-burg and we knew the coaches had favorites. The
coaching staff we have now does not play politics! The coaches do not care who
you are, who your parents are, or where you live. The coaches are building a
winning program that C-burg can be proud of.
High school football
is a hard hitting, aggressive sport that has to be coached by strong leaders. The
way I see it, if you want your son babied call me and I will bring a bottle and a diaper.
I have to give a shout
out to the undefeated C-burg 8th grade team who beat an undefeated Pilot Point 8th grade team. I would also like to say good job to the JV for almost beating a huge Pilot Point
team. Good luck to the CAYSA teams Saturday.
Good luck to the Wildcats Friday.
Love to the Wildcat
Nation.

"IT
STARTS AT HOME"
The Wildcats fell short of clinching
a playoff spot Friday losing to the Cards 33 to 21. DE-FENSE, DE-FENSE,
DE-FENSE the Wildcats have a defense. I
know everyone always wants to talk about offense, but I have to start off with the defense.
The defense really only gave
up one touchdown in the first half against the Cards. The first touchdown was
made from the two yard line after a bad snap on a C-burg punt. The Cards still
took three plays too score from the two yard line. The defense was all over the
field making big plays. The defense was playing with some injuries and some inexperienced
players and they still held their ground.
In the second half the Wildcats
defense allowed two touchdowns and that was because the offense could not move the ball.
D-line Simmons, Fuqua, Ing, Wolf, LB-McCage, Apalla, Bartley CB-Hough, Doreman S-Randle, Weaver. The next time you see these guys tell them good job.
The offense had a good first
half digging out of 13 to 0 hole. Quincy Hough and Bobby Doreman each had touchdown
receptions. Kevin Bartley did not have any big stats, but he played tough and
provided key special team plays. He also laid himself out for the ball. Chris
Apalla ran hard and had a rushing touchdown.
I think the defense and our
QB Thor Long was what kept the Wildcats in this game. I usually do not like so
single out one player in a game. I do know it is a team sport. I have watched Thor for two weeks get pounded almost every play.
Friday night he looked like a mixture of Tom Brady and Tony Romo. Thor
is a great QB who is getting better with every game. Coach Bomar has done a great
job with him, and remember, He’s only a Sophomore. I try not to talk about him too much because he is like a son to
me, and I try not so show any favoritism when I write these small articles. I
do have to give him his credit this week. Thor played hard and never gave up.
The Wildcats will be ok, and
the coaches will work on the O-line problems. I think we will beat Pilot Point
28 to 21.
I would now like to talk about a posting on the Wildcat Nation. Note:
To the Confused Cat Fan. I think it is human nature for a lot of people to show
favoritism toward their child in team sports. I think when your child is involved
with team sports you should want the best for every player on the team. I admit
I get frustrated sometimes when the players are going out doing things they should not be doing. I have to remind myself that some kids are not raised with the same family values that I have raised my
kids with. I try to be positive when I write these articles by not mentioning
injuries, turnovers, sacks or anything else that is negative.
Cat fan you are right, it takes
more than one player to win a game. I think that showed Friday night- we were
in the game, but we did not win the game. I think this starts with the parents
teaching hard work, dedication, teamwork, and what alcohol and drugs do to the body.
The coaches teaching technique and how to play tough, The players putting
in the work all year to become bigger, faster, and stronger, The support of the
Wildcat Nation. I understand what you are saying, but my advice to you is after
the game go tell the players good job shake their hand, fist bump, or a hug. I
promise you that means a lot more to them than some article. You can’t
show people heart in an article, only stats. I say just keep on loving those
Cats.
Quick
shout out to the 12th man, you were great in the 1st half, the noise was deafening! Keep it up in Pilot Point!
Good luck Cats!

Man Needs To Be Heard Against Pigeons
The Wildcats went out Friday night and did what
they had to do too stay in the playoff hunt, by beating the Valley View Eagles 45 to 0.
The offense had trouble getting into a rhythm almost all night. Thor Long
took some big hits, but still passed for 110 yards. Completing 2 touchdown passes to both Quincy Hough and Brandt English. Long, Love, Apalla, and Dorman rushed for a total of 177 yards combined with Appalla
and Dorman both adding touchdowns.
The defense was the story of this game. The Callisburg Defense allowed only 95 yards rushing and 88 yards passing.
Our Wildcats forced 7 turnovers in the game setting up the offense with several short field situations. Love, Randle, and Dorman each had an interception with Love catching his in the Valley View enzone and
returning it for a 104 yard touchdown.
Our defense caused four fumbles in the game, one
of which was scooped up by Chase McCage and returned 48 yards for a C-burg touchdown.
The defense took control of this game from start to finish. Our defense
keeps on getting better and they are doing it at the right time of the year.
I do think that some of the players might have been
thinking about the next team they have to play. It happens, I am already thinking
about the next team. I’m over the Valley View Eagles lets get down to business.
WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILDCAT NAAAAAAAATION,
ARE YOU READY?! It is time too pluck the Pottsboro Pigeons. I said it! Pigeons are dirty, nasty, little birds that make
me want to break out my 12 gauge. I can’t stand this town! The name, the people, the players, or anything else associated with them.
They have been talking trash all over the internet.
Give me a sec., I know I need to calm down before
I stroke out.…. O.k....
I think this team has become C-burgs biggest rivalry. I think this is C-burg’s most important district game. Wildcat Nation, you have done a good job for the last two weeks in district supporting our Wildcats. I am calling out our 12th man (Wildcat Nation) to be the loudest fans the
Pigeons have ever heard, this Friday night. This could be a hard game for our
Wildcats and they need all the support they can get. I believe in the Nation
and in the Wildcat Spirit. I think we can have the first 100 yard spirit line. We
need to show the Pigeons you are not just playing our Wildcats- you are playing the WILDCAT NATION. Bust out you noise makers, clap, stomp, yell and anything else you can do.
This is our homecoming and this is the game that the Wildcats WILL make a statement
to all 2A teams in the state. Good luck to the Wildcats. Go get’em boys.
Confidence is contagious and so is lack of confidence,
and players will recognize both.
"Pluck
those Pigeons!" Dusty

“Experts Don’t Take Wildcat Spirit into Consideration”
Dave
Campbell’s 2008 Texas football Magazine predicted Aubrey 3rd to be third in the district 14-2A
and Callisburg 4th. Mostly all the Sports writers and web sites picked
Aubrey to win the football game Friday night. I think the experts forgot to tell
the Wildcats or if they did it, just made them mad. My question is who needs experts when we are ONE NATION UNDER GOD?
The
Wildcats came out in a playoff atmosphere with a playoff attitude and punched Aubrey right in the mouth and kept on punching
to a 38 to 14 victory. Aubrey had a game plan: to blitz C-burgs young, QB-Thor
Long, and get him rattled. The offensive line of Wilson, Smith, Brooks, Johnson
and Goodwin ruined that plan. The C-burg line controlled the line of scrimmage
all night giving Thor time to find his receivers. This line is the best line
I have ever seen at C-burg, and they push themselves to get better each week. The C-burg line has earned the right to be referred
to as the “HOGS.” This is a name bestowed on a line that wins in the trenches.
Thor
Long controlled the game looking like a veteran and making big plays. Quincy
Hough and Brandt English led the receiving corp. of Brinlee, Barley, and Dorman in key receptions in the game. Clayton Love and Chris Apalla had good runs to help keep the defense off balanced.
Aubrey
was supposed to have a strong running game and the Wildcats shut the running game down. I think the defensive players are
starting to understand Coach Smiley’s defensive schemes. The defensive
line of Simmons, Ing, Wolf, and Fuqua controlled the line of scrimmage. The linebacker
corp. of McCage, Apalla, Bartley and Randall made some big plays and big hits. Brinlee
and Hough did a good job covering receivers. Quincy (Q) Hough also had an interception
and some big hits. Safeties Love and Dorman both had interceptions and did a
good job covering receivers and run support.
I
had been a little critical of the Varsity of not having leaders to step up and take control of the team. Friday they did that and more. Guys stepped up. Keep it up
guys!
I
think the coaching staff did a great job of preparing the Wildcats for the game. The
coaches did key things to give the Wildcats an advantage. This coaching staff
is the best C-burg has ever had. Keep it up coaches. GREAT JOB!
This
was a playoff atmosphere game. The fans, student body, and cheerleaders did a
great job on the spirit line. The cheerleaders had their signs going. The fans were rocking the stands. I could not believe I was
seeing the first wave in Calliburg, Texas
started by the C-burg band. I guess they can’t play Jeremiah was a Bull
Frog, but I am cool with that, if they keep the wave going. I believe, if the
players, coaches, fans, cheerleaders, student body, and band can keep this up, we can push into the playoffs. Remember C-burg it is not about individuals it is about the community.
It’s about all of us doing our part to help our teams. The Wildcat Spirit is back. See you in Valley View!
Good Luck Dusty
P.S. I made a bet with Kevin Bartley that if C-burg lost to Aubrey he would shave his head. I happily lost the bet so now I have to grow my hair out the same length as Thor Long’s. The first time in sixteen years I will have long hair.
I do not think my wife is too happy about it. “Sorry hon, it’s for the team.”

LEADERS WANTED:
I know this is a little late in the week, but I can only write in certain moods. I have been told that; “I am moody, grumpy and anti-social and everything else you can think of,
this past week."
Thursday the 7th grade lost to Ponder 32 to 0, but that happens to young teams.
I did get to see “BAKER’S BATTLING BOY’S” (8th
grade) punish Ponder 62 to 0. I think that was a little pay back to Ponder for
the 7th and JV games. I did talk to Clay Mckenzie(8th grader)
Saturday and I asked him if they were going to win all their games this year? Clay
told me that every boy on that 8th grade team wants to win and that was a big reason for their success. I also think it has to do with the way the guys interact on that team. I also like, after every game, the whole
team runs over to Coach Bomar and intently listens to him. Keep it up Wildcats, you make us proud.
I was pulled out of my bad mood Friday when I went
and watched the volleyball game. "What does volleyball have to do with football, you ask?"
The volleyball team showed what the “Wildcat Spirit” was really about. This is a young team led by a very strong senior leader in Laura Romines. The girls did lose to Pilot Point, but it was not about losing to me, it was about how they played the
game. The played with HEART. The Ladycats played hard and had fun at the same
time. I have a lot of respect for this team and they should be proud of their
effort. I think everyone should go watch this team their teamwork is impressive. "I wish we could put helmets on them." I'm not bashing, you know I love the wildcats,
just saying that we need leaders with HEART.
I was able to go watch some CAYSA teams play
Sherman Saturday. Yes, that’s right, Sherman Bearcats a 4A school playing
a small country 2A school. I heard both flag football teams lost close games. I watched the 3rd (24-0), 4th (28-0), and 5th (22-12) grade teams lay the Smaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack
Down on Sherman. They will not be coming back to play in C-burg. The 6th grade team lost 36 to 8, but they played a team that looked like they were in Junior
High. I think one boy drove their team bus to C-burg. The kids did a good job
of holding them to only eight points in the second half. Good job CAYSA teams.
WILDCAT NATION------WILDCAT NATION------WILDCAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATION!
It is time to break out the noise makers and head to the game Friday. District has now started for the Wildcats. The first game
is against Aubrey at home and it is very important. We need to start out by having a spirit line out to the fifty yard line to show the players our support. The cheerleaders need to work their magic on the spirit line. The band needs to break out Jeremiah was a bullfrog. It is
time to rise up and get crazy! Good luck to all Wildcat Teams and Ladycats!
Outta here see you Friday

“WILDCAT HEART”
“If you don’t learn your history you are destined to repeat it.”
I heard that phrase many times in school from my history teacher, Mrs.Banks.
I have a little history I want to share with everyone. I use to coach
in CAYSA back when my son was young. I had a few boys on my team that now play
on Varsity. Chase (Eye) McCage FB/LB he showed up at a practice with a black
eye, I think his sister gave it to him. Kevin (The Finger) Bartley QB/CB who
showed the teacher he was number one with the wrong finger. Chris(Nature Boy)Apala
HB/LB because he always reminded me of a wrestler. Daulton (Bear Crawl) Ing OL/DT
he really didn’t have a nickname, but his dad would tell me all the time how much Daulton hated me because we did a
lot of bear crawls. Jorden Weaver (C) who
has changed so much I can’t believe it. This was some of the boys on the
3rd and 4th grade team.
The team had a great season. They were undefeated with only one tie. The
team we tied with was Aubrey who had the same record going into the playoffs. C-burg
and Aubrey rolled through the playoffs and met each other in the Super Bowl in Aubrey.
Aubrey being the cocky, arrogant people that they are known for scheduled a super bowl party and parade after our game. The game was tough. Chase McCage ran down and tackled Billie Feathers on the two yard
line in the final seconds of the first half saving a fifty yard touchdown. I
was amazed because Feathers was a lot faster than Chase and he chased him down from behind and had no angle of pursuit. I went to Chase at halftime because I had to know how he caught Feathers. Chase told me I knew I had to catch him so we could win this game.
This was a 4th grader who said this, I was so surprised. The
halftime was almost over and the moms and players started yelling, “We are the Wildcats,” over and over, getting
pumped up and I knew then it was over.
The second half was even tougher then the first. We ended up tying the
score six to six and going into overtime. The ball was spotted at the ten yard
line and Aubrey was up first. Aubrey scored and failed to convert the extra point. The C-burg fans were so loud I couldn’t hear the other coaches talk to me everyone
was going crazy. The ball was then spotted on the ten yard line for C-burg and
we scored so, we called a timeout. I called Chase over and told him it was time
to win this game. There was no party or parade that night in Aubrey, C-burg made
their two point conversion.
I was told all season about how much talent Aubrey had, and it was true. I
told everyone that if we kept the game close we would win. I knew we had less
talent, but I also knew we had more HEART. The point of this story is: it doesn’t matter how big or talented the other team is. The team that has HEART and never gives up is the one that ends up on top.
The question is are upset games really upsets. I think its just teams
that want to win more than the other. Good luck to the Volleyball girls Friday. The Cats next Friday and remember to just play with that "WILDCAT HEART". We never give up! History will repeat
itself.
P.S. “If you think you’re beaten you are. If you think you dare not you don’t. If you think you
would like to win but don’t think you can it’s almost a cinch you wont.
Life battles do not go to the stronger or faster man but sooner or later the one who wins is the one who thinks he
can.” – Unknown

“Turning Water into Wine”
The
Wildcats did a good job on Thursday night. The 7th grade lost 6-12,
but this was only their second game at the junior high level. I think we will
keep on seeing improvements from this team as the season goes along.
The
8th grade won their game 20-0 beating a team that had been undefeated the two previous years. I have a friend from Nocona who told me they were so surprised how good our 8th grade team looked. This team has talent, teamwork, and attitude.
The JV put a “Smack Down” on Nacona 52-6, this young team is getting better and they are getting lots of
experience in the process. They took some knocks along the way, but they keep on clawing.
I
know this article is not my usual greatness, I will be the first to admit that, but I have been in either a bad or sad mood
since Friday night. I, as well as others, were dressed up and ready to watch
an exciting Callisburg football game. The night started off with a bad spirit
line. Most of our fans couldn’t gather up enough energy to get out of the stands to welcome our boys onto the field. Our fans could have taken a lesson from the Nocona fans at this game. The Nocona side was doing the “wave” and was yelling a first down chant. I could see that they knew how to support their team and their team responded to it. The only time Callisburg fans showed any life is when the Wildcats score a touchdown, and I believe, that’s
just because most of them are trying to catch a free gift from the cheerleaders. If
that’s the case, the stand has last year’s knock-offs at a discounted price, go get one of those.
I
think we have a couple of options that could solve the great depression that has hindered our stands.
The
first option is: Cheerleaders could throw free gifts every play. No! That is
too expensive. They’d never go for that.
The
second option is: Cheerleaders could throw rocks every play, and that would make people move a little more. No! I might get hit. Don’t want to loose an eye or something.
Eureka! I got it! We should stop worrying about being so
prim and proper and remember we are all there to support our team. I promise
you, you can scream and clap and you still, won’t look as foolish as I did Friday.
Our
varsity team led in both stats and talent. They were moving the ball at will, but we still lost the game. I truly believe that this team could win their district, or lose it all if they “act” like
they did Friday night. I was seeing players on the sideline with their heads down, walking around like someone stole their
candy, and this was only the second drive of the game. I was also seeing a few
of the younger players going around trying to rally their troops, but to no avail.
Mental
mistakes, it happens sometimes guys. The most important play in a game is the
next one. We have to let the things that go wrong in a game, go. “Like water off a ducks back.” Water cannot penetrate a ducks feathers, so don’t let
mishaps penetrate your mind and take you out of the game mentally. Just learn from it and move on to the next play. I think
this was one of the worst games I have seen since Coach Bomar has come to Callisburg.
This
man can coach people! He has put together a good coaching staff-second to none, but he needs someone to step up and be a leader. I see him grooming a couple of the younger guys, but he needs someone now while he
is grooming. The leaders on a team are the players who take charge when a game is going bad.
Leaders forget about turnovers and bad calls from the refs. Leaders motivate
the team and tell his teammates too step up and pay attention. Leaders communicate
with the coaches on what is happening on the field. Strong leadership could be
the difference between playoffs or just another season: should’ve, would’ve, and could’ve.
Our
wildcats have the coaches and players to have a special season, but the question is: What players will step up and be the
leaders? What players want to turn this water (this game-that’s under the
bridge now), into wine? It may seem like a miracle right now, but this miracle has been done before. We can do it Wildcat
Nation!
I’m
outta here, Cowboys are about to play. Keep your heads up Wildcats we are behind
you all the way. Step it up fans. Good
job cheerleaders. Fanatics Rule! Dennis
Harmon was hot in his 1970 denim suit.

“Time to Take Out the Garbage!”
I just wanted to say good job to the cheerleaders, parents, faculty, and student body
because they accomplished the challenge of the spirit line. I guess I should
be happy because, that’s probably the only time I will see it all year. Yeah, I said it!
I
will keep my end of the deal, plus more. Just be there Friday night and bring
all of your friends and family. See, That’s what I’m talking about, every home game-even away game, should be
like Homecoming for Callisburg. I have been doing my part. I have been recruiting and I invite, no I CHALLENGE, anyone else
who wants to join the Wildcat Fanactics. Wear maroon, slap some paint on and
get loud! The goal is to become the best fans around and to show the athletes
of all sports the support of the Wildcat Nation.
I
will tell you why I keep on talking about support for our athletes. I was talking
to my Mom and Dad about football, like I always do. My mom told me, “I
wish that we had more kids.” Well, I was the youngest and I was thinking
that the rule book states that you had to stop after the perfect child was born. Thus,
here I am. “Why?” I asked, with that uh oh mommas going crazy look.
She responded, “The best times we ever had was when our kids were in school going to all their activities.” This is just another lesson I have learned from my mom and dad and it never stops,
so I keep on listening. We need to appreciate the time we have with our kids
and help make the most of it. Please get involved now before their high school
days are over.
I
have said enough, time to get down to business. I think the cheerleaders need
to have a defense chant, DE-FENSE- - DE-FENSE- - DE-FENSE. I will try to help you with this dilemma. Tom, being from the Penn
State area would like to hear, “WE ARE - -CALLIS- BURG!- - WE ARE-
- CALLIS- BURG! WE ARE- - CALLIS- BURG!
Also,
I wish the band could play “Jeremiah was a bullfrog,” now that’s C-burg old school. Ok, that’s it, I’m outta here.
Good
luck to all the coaches, players, fans, band and of course North Texas
Best cheerleaders, please be careful and don’t break a nail. Nocona has
been talking trash so it’s “time to take out the garbage.” God Bless Callisburg!

WILDCATS HAVE BIG WEEK,
TIME TO LOOK AHEAD
Callisburg, Texas- I have to start first by sending out some love to Justin O’Neal
who broke his leg Thursday night during the 8th grade game. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. It was awesome to see his teamates huddle together and pray for him on the field. They showed that they care about
Justin, and that they know what the concept of "Team" is all about.
Broom!
I need a broom because Whitewright just got swept by the Wildcats. I know JV
tied, but this is called "Dusty’s Corner" and I get to call the winner. The
7th grade won 22 to 20 and I didn’t get to see it because I get off work to late. I do know this team has some talent. I did make it to the
8th grade game and I thought it was at the varsity game. The stands
were packed and everyone was cheering. I heard about this team last year, but
you have to see it to believe it. They were playing against a team that had a
7ft tall quarterback or that’s the way it looked. I think he drove the
team to the game. Callisburg came out, dropped the hammer on him, and never looked
back. The score was 56 to 6, I was so worked up!
This team can pass, run, hit and everything else it takes to win games. The
8th grade is a great team that is fun to watch. They need to get in shape
though. Keep it up boys. The JV had no score in their game ending 0 to
0. The game was mostly a defensive game that had flashes of offense. The JV team has mostly freshmen with a handful of upper classmen so, it will take them a few games to get
use to the JV level, but I am seeing improvements and this is a great building block for them.
The Callisburg Varsity finished the Whitewright sweep Friday night with the score 49
to 20. Quarterback Thor Long passed for four touchdowns and rushed for three
more. The receiving corp of Hough, Brimlee, English, Bartley, and Dorman accounted
for four touchdowns and several big plays. The running backs: Clayton Love and
“Moto” (Morella) did a good job of keeping the defense off balance with some good runs.
The MVG AWARD (Most Valuable Group) of the offense, was our “HOGS” (offensive
linemen). Wilson, Smith, Brooks, Johnson and Goodwin controlled the line of scrimmage,
handled the blitzes and opened holes for the running backs. The defense overall
had a good game even though there was a couple of play that gave them trouble. Cornerbacks
Hough and Doreman both had interceptions. Safeties Love, Brimlee, Bartley, Holley
and Weaver did a good job with speedy and talented receivers. Linebackers Chris
Apalla and "Moto" were all over the field making tackles and "doing what they do!" The
MVG AWARD of defense was the front line of Simmons, Mccage, Ing, Goodwin and Rochelle they controlled the line of scrimmage
and kept pressure on the quarterback, the didn’t allow anyone to get outside of them. The “Biggest Hitters”
of the game were Mccage and Apala.
In my opinion, and again, this is "Dusty's Corner" so, my opinion over rules yours: The MVP
of the game, Drum Roll Please---------“MOTO”. This young man plays
RB/LB with tinasity and I think he sets the tone for the defense with the way he plays and his aggressive attitude.
This was a good game for the Wildcats, but on a scale of 1-10, I will give them a 6. I know some might think that’s low, but they have some kinks to work out on
both sides of the ball and I think they have to get better conditioning. They need
to run a few extra sprints after practice on their own. I know its going to be awesome when they hit "10." Good job to the Coaches and Players, Keep it up.

WHATS UP WILDCAT NATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Callisburg, Texas- I have a little story I wanted to share with everyone
in the wildcat nation. Saturday, after I left work, I decided to interrupt my
busy schedule of naps and pre cowboy game preparation with some CAYSA football. CAYSA
football is Callisburg’s little league football teams. There I was sitting
in front of the press box with no one around me because I like too study the game, yes- I know it’s just a little league
game, but I cant help it that I am a football junkie.
I
look at the field as the Wildcats are running down the sideline excited and ready to play football. Our fans were clapping their hands, stomping their feet, and singing to the song “We will rock you”. Tom (Rap Master) Long was announcing the player’s introduction like a lyrical
genius. The game started, both teams were doing a great job. I was seeing dads high five each other, moms screaming, and the Rap Master entertaining the fans. I was really enjoying the atmosphere of the game and then something happened that
drives me nuts.
Sanger
had the ball 3rd down and five yards to go. They snapped the ball
ran around the end and made the first down. A woman sitting behind me screamed
out, "Good job boys!" I heard the man sitting beside her say, "that’s not
good they made the first down" and she replied, “It’s not about first downs it’s about having fun!” “WOW!" It hit me like a mad woman
with a frying pan. Believe me, I know what that feels like. The boys and girls
of Callisburg not only just play sports, they bring our community together.
The
football players, band members, and cheerleaders work hard every week to give their best performance. We as a community need to remember how much work these kids put into their activities, on top of their
studies, and give them all the support we can.
Our
wildcats not only play for themselves, they also play for the "Wildcat Nation". I
have learned my lesson not to be so critical about what happens in the game, but to be happy the boys and girls are healthy,
and play with "Wildcat Spirit".
Wildcat
fans, Bring your noise makers to Whitewright and let’s support our Varsity Wildcats on Friday night. Let’s show
the world just how big and loyal our Nation is.
GOOK
LUCK TO ALL of “OUR” WILDCAT TEAMS!
